I called it a plate of silver white jade.
It also looked to me like a fairyland mirror –
Above the lofty clouds was the mirror laid.

翻译诗词，吃力不讨好，主要目的乃自娱+炫技。传播文化？诗词最美的灵魂，恰恰是不可译的“东西”。硬着头皮翻，用唯美的书法写就的表意文字 – and the best words in the best order – 翻成用电脑打出来的表音文字，那叫什么？那叫“降维”！千古流传、脍炙人口，翻成英文后，大打折扣，大都沦为儿歌，甚至打油。这是事实。翻完，与同好分享一下，然后洗洗睡了，第二天就忘了。

不过，凡事都有例外。

最近翻译《和平颂》歌词，花了点儿心思，但成就感很强，为何？因为在讲解翻译思路时，观众全神贯注，频频颔首，从他们眼中，我读到了明白、赞同、欣赏。尤其是周深，不仅听得认真，而且在最恰当的时机，插入最恰当的点评。例如，我撸起袖子说：“我要跟人工智能PK一下”，他立即说：“好！”
当我说：“这场活动最后一节由周深领唱、联合国合唱团伴唱《等着我》，我是含着泪翻那首歌的，你们听着歌、读着屏幕上的双语歌词，要是没有被感动，我把名字倒过来写，不叫季晨，叫 Chen Ji！” 周深马上把话接过去：“大家要是没有被感动，那是我唱得不好，责任在我！”
